We believe that everyone has something unique to offer. We offer a variety of ministries and groups designed to help you grow in your faith and become a student of Jesus within community.
You may not realize it, but this is the greatest decision you’ll ever make.
We believe that anyone who calls on the name of Jesus will be saved (Romans 10:13). No matter who you are or what you’ve done, God loves you and has a plan and a purpose for your life.
Wherever you are in your faith journey, we encourage you to learn more about becoming a student of Jesus.
Maybe you’ve heard of “being saved”, but being a student of Jesus is more than just salvation.
Following Jesus isn’t just about being saved for eternity, it’s the way to experience a full life with God here and now.
In deciding to follow Jesus, we’re acknowledging that his way is better. We’re done flying solo, and we’re giving Jesus full control.
From that moment on, we are never alone. Jesus is the friend who never leaves us or forsakes us. He gives us His Spirit to guide us. The Spirit is the part of God living with us, conveying God’s love and cares for us.
Romans 10:9 says, “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Recognize and believe. That’s all it takes to start being a student of Jesus. You can speak to Jesus in your own words, or pray the following:
"Dear Lord Jesus, I admit that I’m in need of your grace. My way isn’t working and I need your forgiveness. I believe you lived, died, and rose again so that I could be connected to God. I recognize you as my Lord and commit my life to You. I give you my past, present, and future. Take my life and use it. I give it to You. Amen."
We believe water baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Spirit is an outward sign of an inward work following conversion.
If you’ve become a student of Jesus and would like to take the next step of being baptized, we’d love to make that happen!
Joining a group is one of the best things you can do to connect in community. It’s where strangers become friends and friends become family.
Giving your life to Jesus is just the beginning. As we grow in our relationship with God, we’re also called to develop our relationships with each other (the body of Christ as we sometimes say). We know that we’re BETTER TOGETHER and we need each other. At the heart of every person is a desire to be needed and known. Where else better to grow, connect and engage than in a group?
Connect Groups are designed to help build connection. These groups are centered around shared interests and experiences. If you’re looking to get to know people, these groups are for you.
Grow Groups are designed to help you grow in your faith. These groups are centered around spiritual formation (becoming like Jesus) and understanding (doing as Jesus did). If you’re looking to spend more time being a student of Jesus, these groups are for you!
Culture Class is the best way to get to know OBC and participate in building the culture!
At OBC we encourage renting not owning. Don’t worry, this isn’t about your living situation. Our belief is that owners think about the church differently than renters. Renters tend to contemplate where they’re going next. Owners tend to see what things can become. Don’t get me wrong, we love renters and owners—they both have a place at OBC—but becoming a member is a commitment to participate in the growth of our community into God’s design as an owner.
Every member contributes to building the culture. From serving on the governing board to serving on the clean team, we all carry the same responsibility in culture building. We understand life happens. People move, jobs change, students go off to college. Navigating an upcoming life change doesn’t mean you can’t become a member. If you find yourself at OBC for a season, own within your commitment scale. A 20-year-old views commitment differently than a 60- year-old. If you’re here for a year, own for a year. If you’re here for a lifetime, own for a lifetime. Whatever length of membership, we’re excited you’re here!
We talk about building the culture a lot. Serving is not just building the culture at OBC, but it shapes the communities we’re a part of. When we serve, we become more like Jesus. Because of that process of being like him, our desire is to shape our communities as it is in heaven: full of God’s presence and goodness.
There are several ministries and outreach opportunities to serve at OBC. You can find a list of them below!
